Are you all up on the latest and greatest and nicely priced computers?
Does anyone have a recomendation on a good inexpensive laptop?
For X-mas I purchased a Acer laptop for one of my nephews which has a AMD Turion 64 processor for only $649 which I was extremely impressed with. However our town has sold out and I have another nephew in need of a computer so if anyone has any suggestions and or information on purchasing a new laptop I would greatly appreciate any info since I only lucked out in getting a great prodcut with the Acer.
We went out yesterday and bougt a sweet laptop for him. I found antoher Acer Aspire except with a little more stuff for the same money. It has: AMD Turion Dual processor, 1 G RAM, 120 GB hard drive and built in web cam.

Well, it depends on what you're into really.. if you like inexpensive ones... go to dell.com to try to find one... however, if you want something quite durable... I suguest trying to find a toshiba dealer near you... Toshiba's are kinda picky animals, so do some homework before you go and purchase... they're GREAT computers, IF YOU GET THE RIGHT ONE... Thus far, the Sattelite series have been winners in my book.. a few of the other toshiba models (I can't remember which ones) have had overheating issues... so when you're looking for a toshiba, don't get anything under like the $500.00 mark... they just use junk parts usually to make those.... the satellites generally go for north of $650.00 and are reliable.. my mother picked one up a little while ago; I've had mine for three to four years now...
Dell is good because they'll MAKE it for you.. you call them up and they'll ask you questions about what you're going to use it for and whatnot.. then, they'll ask you about certain things and so on... "You want us to put in expanded memory for $50.00?" "sure!" "What kind of memory would you like.. 1GB or 2GB?".................well, it depends on what you're using it for... while 2GB memory is nice, it may not be necessary if it's one you use for mostly school applications and such (writing essays and doing coursework and all the other bullshit)..
Mac.... Well.. Powerbooks are common, but I just have a general distrust for Macintosh machines...
HP and COMPAQ are now merged into one company... and their software packages sometimes conflich with themselves.... they're just in the "ok" field as far as overall use goes... They tend to have some hard drive issues as well...
My personal vote: toshiba satellite
then again, it's only my opinion...
AspHole, I appreciate your feedback! I actually have an older Toshiba Satelliite that I'm using right now as my back up since my two year old HP laptop crashed last week. The Toshiba certainly is a durable computer but now I'm shit out of luck since my nephews friend asked if he could buy this one and I agreed prior to mine crashing.
wrote ... Actually, 1) Thanks for posting it in here ... 2) I'm all for DELL ... I got this one on sale for 699.99 ... It's DUO-CORE, BLUETOOTH, and rocks ... I'm not gonna need another one for a LONG time ...
Look up the E1505 (15" monitor) or the E1405 (same thing, only 14" monitor) ...
I'll try and get better specs for you ... I use this for EVERYTHING ... (Tech Support, gaming, DJ'ing/entertainment; everything)
Oh, and welcome to TSi ....
Thrash, thanks for the welcome to TSI and you're very welcome in regards to your thanks for posting in the right section.
I'm considering buying a new laptop for myself, if I don't buy the Acer I'm defintely going to look at the Dell.
wrote ... I have a Dell also. Works great for my needs. I mainly use it when I travel and whatnot.
Here are the specs for the E1505 and it's on sale right now.
Thanks for your input and specs on the Dell Kell (oh that rhymes ).

Pretty please, I want more info on what bluetooth does for computers! The new Acer also has a bluetooth button.

I was a sucker and paid $1400 for my lapptop and another $300 for the extended warranty so I think I will hang on to it. If for no other reason then the fact I way over paid for what it is worth.
What can I say, I'm a loser baby, why don't you kill me.
P.S. I have a question regarding processors???
Can anyone tell me the difference between them? Celeron, Pentium III, AMD, etc...
bluetooth is a form of wireless connection... if you see these people walking around with the things on their ears for the cell phones (the kind with no wires...) THAT'S bluetooth..
