True indeed. I'm in love with the biology behind it as well. I mean the whole thing is really amazing. There's this whole network of receptors in the human body set up to detect cannabis and to produce this reaction to it. Other drugs like cocaine and lsd and the rest act by (over)stimulating receptors set up for normal (non-illegal-drug) bodily emissions, but the cannabinoid system is set up specifically to detect cannabinoid compounds. As it turns out the human body does in fact produce cannabinoids naturally at very very small doses, but the doses are so small and the emissions so rare that the entire system was only discovered in the 1990s through studying pot and its effects on humans. To this day science has no explanation of what on earth this complex system in our bodies has evolved to do. This of course has led to the nonscientific but beguiling notion that humans have evolved this system so that we can get high.
