Hm, well if the title is the topic here, then I would have to say it all depends. If it is done without the partner's knowledge and for the reasons of sexual fulfillment, then yes it can be considered cheating. If it is done like non-sexual roleplaying, for the sake of a story built around it where that just ends up a part of it, then you're standing in uncertain waters. But I would say it is just like anything else, the best thing to do is ask the person you're with for if they consider it cheating or not, taking into account the individual's reasons for performing the act.
Personally I don't think it is cheating, for the exact reasons Hayley mentioned. If the words on the screen are for pure arousal, it's the same as pornography. If you are getting romantic then that's different, but just as there is sex and making love, there's cyber romance and cyber fucking. But at the same time I think a person's partner should be aware of it, because there are those who would consider it cheating.
And here I thought you could never have enough of something when it was done right. Ah well, I suppose if you keep it up too long they'll just end up licked.
Yes, peole who cyber while in relationships are cheating on their girlfriend/boyfriend. They are very wrong for cybering. Most cyberers are old and just want to take avantage of youth. Cybering is for sick pople.

Cyber-sex is ultimately phone-sex with typing, and I for one am not well for typing and masturbation at the same time. There's alot lost in translation, because good hot sex needs visual stimulation + touchy-feely sensations, plus my two favorites are completely omitted - TASTE and SMELL.
Cybering is a cheat on yourself! At some point one might actually have live sex, and it could be confusing without a keyboard, and I imagine there's alot of premature ejaculations on the male side in this context. If you are doing it behind the back of an acual 'live' spouse/lover, there are some problems in your relationship if this activity is replacing actual exchange of body fluids etc. If one is channelling fantasy and sexual creativity through the net to some cyber-lover, something is seriously wrong with one's real world love life. It's not cheating the other person, it's a cheat on yourself
