There is some debate as to the criterion used to include musicians who died at the age of 27 in the "27 Club". The impetus for the Club's creation were the deaths of an unusual number of prominent 27 year old musicians within a two year period of time.
Lists include Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison.
All four of these musicians died between 1969 and 1971. Hendrix, Joplin, and Morrison all died within a ten month period. Morrison and Jones died on the same date two years apart. Kurt Cobain, who died in 1994, was later included by some, probably due to his popularity and his death occurring at the pinnacle of his career. when Cobain died, his sister claimed that as a kid he would talk about how he wanted to join the 27 Club.

The relationship between John Lennon and the number 9

“Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, Number 9…“

Another of the Beatles recurring themes involved songs written by John Lennon. It seems that Lennon had a fascination with the number nine that was only overpowered by his love for Yoko.

* John Lennon was born on October, 9 1940
* Some even say he was born at 6:30pm. 6 + 3 + 0 = well you figure it out.
* His son was also born on the ninth
* When John Lennon was shot, on December, 8th 1980, it was already December 9th in his hometown of Liverpool, England.
* Liverpool has nine letters
* When an engineer said “Revolution number nine” to begin the recording of the song by the same name, John loved the sound. He was lucky that it had been recorded. John looped the recording over and over again throughout the beginning of “Revolution No. 9“
* Nine letters make up the most important phrase of one of John’s most important antiwar songs. All we are saying, is give peace a chance.
* John Ono Lennon and Yoko Ono Lennon’s combined names contain nine O’s
* John’s elementary school bus number happened to be 72. 7 + 2 = 9 (We know its a stretch)
* He even lived in apartment 72 in New York. Yet another 9.
* McCartney, his best friend through most of his life, is spelled with 9 letters.
* the beatles broke up after nine years

Songs and Albums

* “One After 909“
* “Revolution No. 9“
* “#9 Dream”

Ironically, this song was a part of Lennon’s ninth solo album which was released in the ninth month of 1974. The song even peaked at number 9 in the charts. AND…. A verse in the song has nine syllables, “Ah, bowakawa, pousse pousse.”
* His album, Mind Games, contains nine letters in its title
* Another of Lennon’s album names contains nine letters. The album was his dedication to classic rock and was entitled: Rock ‘n’ Roll

.....They were all Playboy Playmates, and they all died before the age of 50. And they’re not the only Playmates to do so, leading one to think there might be a curse among Playboy Playmates.

more than twenty deaths among them over the past few decades, and some pretty gruesome ones at that, thinking that they’ve fallen victim to some unknown curse is more tempting than the normal and infinitely more logical explanation that it was just their time.

The aforementioned playmates died of unknown causes, sleeping pill overdose, decapitation by car crash, and gunshot wounds inflicted by own husband, respectively.

The other Playmate deaths were no less tragic: 1955 Playmate Eve Meyer was killed in a runway collision of two planes in Tenerife; 1977 centerfold Star Stowe was found strangled in 1977; 1970 Playmate of the Year Claudia Jennings, Carol Willis and Tonya Crews all perished in car crashes.

Atuk is most infamous, however, for supposedly being cursed and, at least partly responsible for the deaths of several major comedic actors in the 1980s and 1990s. The Atuk Curse has become one of the best known urban legends of Hollywood.

Its first victim, supposedly, was John Belushi, who had read the script and was reportedly enthusiastic about taking on the role of Atuk.

Shortly afterwards, he was found dead of a drug overdose in 1982.

The curse's next alleged victim was Sam Kinison, who took on the role in 1987 and filmed at least one scene for the film before he grew dissatisfied with the script and quit. He ultimately died in an automobile accident in 1992.

The curse would strike again in 1994 when John Candy, who had been approached for the role of Atuk, was reading the script when he suddenly died of a heart attack, on March 4 (the day before the 12th anniversary of Belushi's death).

Some believe the curse struck twice that year, since in November Michael O'Donoghue died of a cerebral hemorrhage. O'Donoghue was a writer and comedian who was also a friend of Belushi and Kinison and, the story goes, had read the script (in some versions even worked on it) before recommending it to them.

The final victim of the Atuk Curse, to date, is said to be Chris Farley, who idolized John Belushi. Like his idol, he was up for the role of Atuk, and was about to accept when, also like his idol, he died of a drug overdose in December 1997.

Although according to some versions the curse would strike once more only six months later in May 1998 when Farley's friend and former Saturday Night Live cast-mate, Phil Hartman was murdered by his wife.

Farley is said to have shown the Atuk script to Hartman, before his death, and was encouraging him to take a co-starring role.

Atuk has not and, due to its infamy (along with the fact so many involved with it seem to keep dying), in all likelihood never will be made into a film. A copy of the script was purportedly put up for auction on eBay in recent years.

The curse has been a featured topic on several TV shows and documentaries. Ironically the author of the novel on which it is based, Richler, and writer of the afterword Gzowski both died peacefully in 2001 and 2002 respectively, after enjoying long lives and successful careers.

The movie was also referenced in the commentary track for 2004's Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, in which Adam McKay repeatedly pitches a screenplay called "Eskimo in New York" to Will Ferrell. Will remarks several times that he doesn't think it will make a good movie, and refuses to be a part of it.
