Ok, I'm on record as saying that it would suck balls, but you know, it isnt nearly as bad as I feared it would be.
That said, it isnt nearly as interesting, creepy or as gritty as the original British series, but so far they havent completely butchered it. But I cringe at the prospective end of the series, because they have changed the "unsatisfying" ending, which is likely code for making it palateable for American audiences by cutesying it up.
Oh, and the less in your face Gene Hunt character Harvey Keitel plays is no patch on the severe Philip Glennister hard arse.
I refuse to watch it. If a country the size of the US can't develop it's own shit, no one should watch the BBC ripoffs.

Well I think thats part of the problem. Your TV networks arent particularly adept at taking huge risks, where the BBC can, being not for profit. I'm actually amazed that ABC took on Life On Mars, to be honest, but not surprised that they watered it down as much as they have. If something doesnt fit a formula, it doesnt get on the air. It's Pay TV that fills those types of programming spaces (HBO is fairly decent at doing that).
Happens here too. I watch absolutely no Australian made TV serial type shows made by the networks, because I know that 1) there wont be anything new or interesting in them, & 2) Australians cant act worth a wank. Even the ABC (government broadcaster) is incapable of making a decent serial.
At least American made shows have people in them who can act, and have decent production values. Getting ABC or CBS or NBC to take a chance on some of the available writing talent in the US to produce something new and interesting is the missing link.

It's nothing new, there have been some awful conversions, like The Office or worse still Kath & Kim (you know youre scraping the bottom of the barrel when you remake a bad Australian comedy show).
That aside, I've been watching Grand Designs... Kevin McCloud is hilarious.

I watched an episode of Kath & Kim while waiting for tires and alignment on the car. I can't believe Selma Blair would take a shit project like that. Absolute shit. I don't care how hot he is, will no longer wank to vids of her.
