Lynrd Skynrd is pretty kick ass, and I have to admit that The Eagles have some pretty good shit too.

I've been listening to some ZZ Top recently, and I kinda feel like I've been unfairly dismissing them as a crappy gimmick band for a long time. Their later stuff was kinda cheesy 80s-ey, but there's a lot of good earlier stuff there too.

Also, gotta love Credence.

Allmans, Skynyrd, .38 Special, Outlaws, Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, Grindeswitch, CCR and CDB. And Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers count also, though their later work was less "Southern". Later offshoots like Dicky Betts Band, Rossington Collins, John Fogerty's solo stuff were pretty good too. This is the music I grew up on.

True. Tom Petty is great. The first casette tape I ever bought was Full Moon Fever.

EDIT: On an unrelated note, the first CD I ever bought was The Presidents of the United States of America.

EDIT#2: First LP I ever bought is a hard one since I essentially had as much as I wanted from my parent's stash. I think it may have been Bridge over Troubled Water. That was certainly one of my first anyway... Edited Tue Feb 17 2009, 04:29pm

Firsts:

Tape - Michael Jackson's Bad
Record - The Specials' Ghost Town (w/ Friday Night, Saturday Morning and Why?)
CD - Snoop Doggy Dogg's Doggystyle

The record is iffy cuz I've never actually bought one - it was a present from my dad, who was a DJ in the late 70s/early 80s.
